Pychess
Open source chess variant server
PyChess is a chess variants website trying to provide the look and feel of lichess. It supports a large variety of variants, including analysis with and play against Fairy-Stockfish. Currently is the only website where all major regional chess variants can be played and analyzed. Not to be confused with the PyChess GUI.
Lishogi
Lishogi is an open source shogi website based on lichess with a similar set of features, supporting normal playing, tournaments, studies, etc.
Playstrategy
Playstrategy is an open source abstract strategy game website based on lichess, supporting some chess variants and additional strategy games.
PlayOk
PlayOk is a free abstract strategy game website supporting a few regional chess variants. It has quite many players, but a rather dated interface.

81dojo is a free shogi website, perhaps the biggest not only available in Japanese language.
GUIs
LiGround
LiGround is a modern, cross-platform chess variant GUI for lichess variants and regional variants. As it is a rather new project the set of features is rather limited, but working well for basic analysis and game play. Compatible with UCI engines, especially Fairy-Stockfish, since LiGround’s rule implementation is based on it.
WinBoard/XBoard
WinBoard/XBoard is an old but very feature rich chess variant GUI supporting a large variety of chess variants, including user/engine defined games. Not as modern and stable as other GUIs, but still one of the most used variant GUIs. Compatible with CECP/XBoard engines.
Cutechess
Cutechess mainly a chess (variant) engine tournament manager, with both a command line and a graphical user interface. Also supports game play against engines, but does not have analysis features.
ShogiGUI
ShogiGUI is a Windows GUI for Shogi. It can also be run on Linux using mono/wine, e.g., with docker.

Fairyground serves as a playground to try out Fairy-Stockfish online with custom variants, enabling game play and interactive analysis.
